Basic and advanced concepts and principles of information retrieval including: definition, framework, usesand ethical issues. Issues related to interface, relevance, language processing and indexing are discussed.Information retrieval techniques are covered from the perspectives of effectiveness and run-timeperformance, as well as heuristics and algorithms used in information retrieval systems. Informationretrieval mechanism used in both Websites and Web search engines are also discussed. Ethical issuesincluding personal privacy, bias, informed consent, monitoring and surveillance are also examined anddiscussed.
