Official Name of Program
Department(s) Sponsoring Program
Degree Designation
The associate in applied science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology is designed so that students benefit from the strong emphasis placed on the development of oral and written communication skills. Graduates are firmly rooted in modern technology using state of the art industrial equipment and are able to contribute immediately in the workplace as technicians with problem troubleshooting and solving and assisting in project design. A quality education and individual academic advising are continuously provided throughout the students’ program of study.
Students completing the degree program will obtain the knowledge required to qualify for employers such as ConEd, Verizon, MTA, and Honeywell. Graduates may continue toward a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering technology at City Tech.
Learning Outcomes
Program Educational Objectives
This degree will equip students with the ability to secure entry level positions, and sustain successful careers, beyond entry level, as electrical or electronic technicians.
This degree will equip students to embark on careers leading to personal and professional growth by achieving increasing levels of responsibility and leadership, and respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
This degree will equip students to pursue life-long learning to enhance their degree, through formal education and/or certification in order to improve their careers and benefit society.
Student Outcomes
General (Adopted from ETAC/ABET Criterion 3)
Students demonstrate:
an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve well-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
an ability to design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the engineering design of systems, components, or processes appropriate to the discipline;
an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in well-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results; and
an ability to function effectively as a member of a technical team.
Discipline Specific (Adopted from ETAC/ABET Program Criteria)
Students demonstrate knowledge and hands-on competence in:
the application of circuit analysis and design, computer programming, associated software, analog and digital electronics, and microcomputers, and engineering standards to the building, testing, operation, and maintenance of electrical/electronic(s) systems; and
the application of natural sciences and mathematics at or above the level of algebra and trigonometry to the building, testing, operation, and maintenance of electrical/electronic systems.
Accreditation
The program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission’s general criteria and the program criteria for Electrical/Electronic(s) Engineering Technology and similarly named programs.
Advisement Information
Advising hours are scheduled each semester, posted on the college and department websites and the department's bulletin boards, and emailed to all students.
Explore the Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering Technology Department on the City Tech website.
Certifications are granted by the NSPE (National Society of Professional Engineers), ETA (Electronics Technicians Association), and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) student chapters at ETET-NYCCT.
These chapters play important roles for engineering technology students at the New York City College of Technology.
The main goal of these student chapters is to benefit all its student members through industry exposure and support in achieving several professional engineering licensure-categories for those who are interested.
Requirements
Some courses that are required for the major also meet general education requirements. Choosing to take advantage of double duty can speed up progress toward graduation and increase elective credits. In DegreeWorks, a double duty course displays and fulfills both requirements, but the credits count only once; the elective area will adjust automatically. Specific options for double duty courses may be listed here or noted in the degree map below.

Bachelor's degrees and AA and AS degrees require six flexible common core courses: at least one course in each of the five flexible core areas and an additional sixth course in one of them. Students can complete no more than two courses from any one area. AAS degrees may require fewer overall flexible core credits.

Students at New York City College of Technology must complete two courses designated writing intensive (WI) for the associate level, one from general education requirements and one from the major.
Transfer students and those who have earned a prior degree may have part or all of this requirement waived; please consult the Degree Requirements page for additional information.
