Overview
Official Name of Program
Department(s) Sponsoring Program
Degree Designation
This degree accommodates students with diverse interests in healthcare while supporting their entry from a variety of backgrounds—high school, associate-level degrees, and career paths transferrable to healthcare operations such as hospitality, business, and law. It prepares students with minimal or no healthcare experience to enter a robust labor market in healthcare planning, operations policy and management, as well as the ability to pursue related graduate studies.

The ability to:
Analyze policies, economic trends, and determinants of health to strategically plan health services delivery.
Plan and organize resources essential for the efficient operation and the equitable delivery of health services.
Develop healthcare financial management plans applicable to the healthcare business setting.
Use industry standard health technology applications for managing administrative and clinical information.
Apply computational methods to analyze and improve processes in healthcare organizations and systems.
Integrate policy, management, and finance in applied administrative settings.
Articulation Agreements
The program has an articulation agreement with the AS in Public Health from BMCC and an option to earn a graduate degree from CUNY School of Public Health with one additional year of full-time study.
City Tech students enrolled in the BS in Healthcare Policy and Management program and who successfully complete the 4+1 program application process at the School of Public Health can take graduate level courses during their junior and senior years at City Tech, with these courses counting towards both their undergraduate and graduate degrees. Undergraduate tuition is paid until the 120 credits needed for the bachelor’s degree are completed. The BS and MPH/MS degrees can be completed in five years rather than six, saving both time and money. Please refer to this document for more information.
Please refer to the college website to see the full text of the agreements.
Distance Learning Information
The BS in Healthcare Policy and Management has been approved by NYSED and MSCHE to be offered as a fully online program.
This degree program does not accept international students needing an F-1 visa, because we cannot guarantee that students will be able satisfy the Department of Homeland Security requirement that students maintain their full-time status and do not take more than 3 credits online each semester (dhs.gov). A significant component of this program is offered online.
Before applying, an international applicant who wishes to study at City Tech under an F-1 visa should email Vanessa Villaneuva, VVillaneuva@citytech.cuny.edu.
Advisement Information
Please consult the department website for full details.

Requirements
Bachelor's degrees and AA and AS degrees require six flexible common core courses: at least one course in each of the five flexible core areas and an additional sixth course in one of them. Students can complete no more than two courses from any one area.
Some courses that are required for the major also meet general education requirements. Choosing to take advantage of double duty can speed up progress toward graduation and increase elective credits. In DegreeWorks, a double duty course displays and fulfills both requirements, but the credits count only once; the elective area will adjust automatically. Specific options for double duty courses may be listed here or noted in the degree map below.
All baccalaureate students starting at City Tech or transferring in with 30 or fewer credits, in addition to the common and flexible core courses, will also complete the following 12 credits: one course in speech/oral communication; one interdisciplinary course; and two additional liberal arts courses or, in BTech programs, additional liberal arts credits to reach a minimum total of 42 credits in general education.
In meeting general education requirements overall, students must take at least one advanced liberal arts course or two sequential courses in a foreign language. An advanced course is at the 2000 level or higher and has a prerequisite in the same or a closely related discipline. Examples of courses with prerequisites in closely related disciplines are: ECON 1101 and SOC 3301; PSY 1101 and SOC 2403.
Transfer students with more than 30 earned credits or a prior degree have modified college option requirements, as noted on the Transfer Credit page.
Students at New York City College of Technology must complete two courses designated writing intensive (WI) for the associate level, one from general education requirements and one from the major; and two additional courses designated WI for the baccalaureate level, one from general education and one from the major. Transfer students and those who have earned a prior degree may have part of this requirement waived. Please consult the Degree Requirements page for additional information.
For progression in and graduation from the curriculum, students:
Must maintain an overall 2.0 GPA.
Must receive a minimum grade of “C” in each core upper-level course (3xxx plus) designated with the prefix HSCI or HSA.
No HSCI or HSA upper-level course (3xxx plus) may be repeated more than once.
Students who do not meet the above requirements will be withdrawn from the Healthcare Policy and Management program.
