Overview

The Department of Health Sciences represents the interest of a diverse student body. Its programs give students the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies needed for successful career mobility and diversification. The faculty, staff, and administration are committed to providing excellence in education through student-focused active learning that promotes ongoing self- development, ethical conduct, and leadership.

The department offers one associate degree and two baccalaureate degree programs in a dynamic learning environment that prepares students for the rigors of employment, encourages their professional growth, and inspires a commitment to graduate education and lifelong learning.

Mission

The Department of Health Sciences provides opportunity for both associate and bachelors students to enter into health-related employment and careers. Graduates are well suited to assume supporting and administrative roles in settings ranging from private practice to hospitals, nursing homes and other health related industries.

Degree Programs

The associate in science in program provides students with an overview of career opportunities within healthcare as well as foundational knowledge about the field. The degree offers students a pathway to:

Gain knowledge and skills for entry-level employment within the healthcare sector (such as medical receptionist, contact tracer).
Prepare for a career in health while taking pre-clinical courses for one of City Tech’s competitive clinical degrees (including nursing, dental hygiene, radiologic technology).
Continue health-related studies by pursuing a baccalaureate degree (e.g., BS Healthcare Policy and Management)

The bachelor of science in program accommodates students with diverse interests in healthcare while supporting their entry from a variety of backgrounds: high school, associate-level degrees, and career paths transferrable to healthcare operations such as hospitality, business, and law. It prepares students to enter a robust labor market in healthcare planning, operations, policy, and management, as well as the ability to pursue related graduate studies.

The bachelor of science in program is a career development degree for those who hold an associate degree from a clinical healthcare program, have obtained clinical licensure, or graduated from an articulated program. This degree is only open to senior-level students who completed an associate degree with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. It provides students with the knowledge and skills of overseeing healthcare systems and the delivery of health care services.
